Bullet-Resistant Doors for Homes and Secure Facilities
UL 752 LEVEL 3 AND LEVEL 8 OPTIONS
GSS Doors supplies custom bullet-resistant door and frame assemblies for residential, commercial and government applications. Combine Embassy FE/5 or Fortress FE/15 forced-entry resistance with available UL 752 level 3 and level 8 protection against defined handgun or rifle threats.
Each system is configured around the complete opening, including the door, reinforced frame, locking system, glazing, hardware and installation requirements.

UNDERSTANDING BALLISTIC PROTECTION
Bullet-Resistant Does Not Mean Protection Against Every Threat
No security door is universally bulletproof. Bullet-resistant doors are designed and tested against defined ammunition, projectile velocities, shot patterns and numbers of impacts.
The appropriate rating should be selected around the specific threats identified for the project rather than assuming that one ballistic level protects against every firearm or ammunition type.
Protection Is Threat-Specific
UL 752 Level 3 addresses defined handgun threats, while Level 8 addresses a specified rifle threat. Protection applies only to the threats and test conditions covered by the selected rating.
The Complete Configuration Matters
Ballistic performance depends on the complete assembly, including the door leaf, reinforced frame, glazing, hardware, anchors and installation. Every rated component must be coordinated so weak points are not introduced into the opening.
Compare Available Ballistic Protection Levels
The appropriate ballistic level should be selected from the threats identified for the project. GSS Doors can help coordinate the selected rating with the door series, frame, glazing, hardware and surrounding construction.
UL 752 Level 3 Handgun Protection
UL 752 Level 3 addresses a defined .44 Magnum handgun threat under specified test conditions. It can provide an appropriate starting point for homes, safe rooms, private offices and commercial areas where handgun protection has been identified as the project requirement.
Available configurations can include solid or glazed doors, reinforced frames and compatible bullet-resistant sidelights or windows.

UL 752 Level 8 Rifle Protection
UL 752 Level 8 addresses a defined 7.62 × 51 mm rifle threat under specified test conditions. The increased protection requires heavier ballistic materials and careful coordination of the complete opening, installation and supporting wall construction.
Level 8 configurations are available for projects with elevated ballistic requirements, subject to the selected door design, size, glazing and system specifications.
Ballistic Testing – UL 752 Level 8
Neither rating provides universal protection against every firearm or ammunition type. Final ballistic requirements and rated components must be confirmed before production.
Ballistic Protection Built Around the Complete Opening
A bullet-resistant door is only one part of the protected opening. The door leaf, frame, glazing, locking system, anchoring and surrounding construction must be coordinated around the selected ballistic requirement.
Reinforced Door and Frame
Ballistic materials are incorporated into the door and reinforced frame according to the selected configuration. The frame must remain properly supported and anchored so it does not become a weak point in the assembly.

Rated Glazing and Openings
Any vision panel, sidelight or transom must use glazing compatible with the required protection level. Glass thickness, framing, exposed edges and attachment methods must be reviewed as part of the complete system.

Coordinated Installation
Wall construction, fasteners, clearances and installation conditions can affect the completed opening. GSS Doors provides project-specific shop drawings identifying the door, frame and hardware configuration for review before fabrication.

Changing rated components or installation details without approval may affect the intended ballistic performance.
EXTEND PROTECTION BEYOND THE DOOR
Bullet-Resistant Wall Panels
A bullet-resistant door protects the opening, but the surrounding walls must also be considered when planning a protected room. GSS Doors supplies UL 752-rated fiberglass wall panels for safe rooms, offices, secure storage areas and commercial security projects.
Available Level 3 and Level 8 panels install over the wall framing and can be concealed behind drywall, plywood, millwork or other interior finishes. Ballistic batten strips protect the seams between panels, helping create continuous coverage across the reinforced wall assembly.
Final panel selection, seam treatment and fastening requirements should be coordinated with the project’s required ballistic level and wall construction.

Plan the Right Bullet-Resistant Door for Your Project
Every bullet-resistant door must be configured around the identified threat, opening size, wall construction, forced-entry requirements, locking preference and architectural design.
Provide the project zip code, intended use, approximate rough-opening dimensions, wall construction and any preferences for the door swing, locking system, architectural finish or ballistic protection.
