Bullet-Resistant Wall Panels
UL 752 LEVEL 3 AND LEVEL 8 · FIBERGLASS BALLISTIC PROTECTION
GSS Doors supplies bullet-resistant fiberglass wall panels for residential, commercial, government and high-security applications. Installed as part of a properly designed wall assembly, these panels provide concealed ballistic protection behind drywall, millwork and other architectural finishes.
UL 752 Level 3 panels are designed for specified handgun threats, including .44 Magnum ammunition. UL 752 Level 8 panels provide increased protection against the specified 7.62 mm rifle threat. Both options are available in multiple panel sizes to accommodate new construction and qualifying retrofit projects.
The appropriate protection level should be selected according to the identified threat and complete wall design. Panel joints, penetrations, supporting construction, doors, windows and installation details must all be coordinated to maintain the intended level of protection.
How Bullet-Resistant Fiberglass Panels Work
Bullet-resistant wall panels are manufactured from multiple layers of woven ballistic-grade fiberglass reinforced with resin and compressed into rigid sheets. When struck, controlled internal delamination helps absorb and distribute the projectile’s energy while capturing the projectile within the panel.
The panels are secured to the wall framing and can be concealed behind drywall, wood paneling or other interior finishes. This allows ballistic protection to be incorporated without giving the room an institutional or visibly fortified appearance.
Effective protection requires continuous coverage. Panel joints should use matching ballistic-rated battens where required, while corners can be overlapped to maintain protection without a separate corner batten. Doors, windows, electrical boxes and other penetrations must also be detailed to avoid gaps. The complete wall assembly must support the selected protection level.
Why Fiberglass Ballistic Panels?
UL Listed Protection
Level 3 and Level 8 panels provide UL 752 Listed ballistic protection against defined handgun or rifle threats.

Captures the Projectile
The layered fiberglass construction is designed to capture ballistic projectiles without the ricochet associated with hard armor surfaces.

Concealed Protection
Panels can be installed behind drywall, millwork, wood paneling and other finishes so the protected wall retains a conventional appearance.

Flexible Fabrication
Multiple sheet sizes and custom cutting options allow panels to be coordinated around openings, corners and project-specific conditions.

Compare Level 3 and Level 8 Bullet-Resistant Wall Panels
The right panel is determined by the identified ballistic threat, supporting wall construction and installation requirements. Level 3 provides protection against the specified handgun threat, while Level 8 is substantially thicker and heavier to resist the specified rifle threat.
| Specification | UL 752 Level 3 | UL 752 Level 8 |
|---|---|---|
| Defined test threat | .44 Magnum handgun ammunition | 7.62 mm rifle ammunition |
| Projectile weight | 240 grains | 150 grains |
| Test shots | Three | Five |
| Minimum test velocity | 1,350 ft/s | 2,750 ft/s |
| Nominal panel thickness | 7/16 inch | 1 7/16 inches |
| Nominal panel weight | 4.8 lb. per sq. ft. | 15.2 lb. per sq. ft. |
| Primary consideration | Handgun-threat protection with a thinner, lighter panel | Rifle-threat protection requiring a thicker, heavier panel |
| Common applications | Homes, offices, safe rooms, reception areas and retail environments | Government buildings, law-enforcement facilities, critical infrastructure and high-threat residential or commercial spaces |
These specifications apply to the listed panel products and defined test conditions. Panel joints, fasteners, structural support and installation details must be appropriate for the selected level. Current product documentation should be reviewed before the final wall assembly is designed or ordered.
